Published on 25/08/2014

Leia grew up in Adelaide and started dancing when she was 5 years old and completed her RAD Advanced 2 at 18. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Dance at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in Perth. Leia now lives in Sydney and is the Assistant Manager at our Parramatta store.

What is your role and how long have you worked at Bloch for?
Assistant Manager - 1.5 Years

Why did you choose to work at Bloch?
I worked in the dance retail industry while living in Adelaide and so when I moved to Sydney the opportunity to work for one of the biggest and most renowned dance brands in the world was too good to pass up!

What's your favourite thing about working at Bloch?
My favourite thing about working for Bloch is experiencing the excitement and joy of a first shoe fitting. From a little ballerina's first ever pair of ballet flats, to a first pair of pointe shoes, it is so rewarding to be there and help them find the perfect shoe.

What's your ultimate Bloch product?
I love our lycra leggings! Not only are they incredibly comfortable but you can literally wear them anywhere by dressing them up or down depending on where you're going and what you're doing. They're one of my wardrobe staples!

Do you remember your first Bloch purchase?
My first Bloch purchase was a little pair of Prolite leather ballet flats when I was five years old. I don't remember purchasing them, but I still have them in a little frame which I was given by my mum to remind me of how far I've come since then.

What is your first memory of dance?
My first memory of dance is sitting in a circle practicing "good toes, bad toes". I remember trying so hard to point my toes as well as my teacher, and eventually convincing myself that it must be easier for her because she wore canvas shoes.

What is your favourite quote?
"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; For beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." Audrey Hepburn

What is your favourite dance work?
My favourite ballet is Don Quixote.
My favourite contemporary work is Faun by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

Your most embarrassing dance moment?
My most embarrassing dance moment was in 2009 when I was dancing the role of Victoria in The Red Shoes. While I was dancing my pointe shoe slipped out from under me and I landed on my face. Considering we were only 10 minutes into a 40 minute show, my swollen face made the rest of the show a fairly embarrassing experience.

Who inspired you to start dancing?
My mum definitely inspired me to start dancing. When I was little she gave me all of her old costumes to play with and I used to love dressing up and pretending to be a ballerina. When I was old enough she asked if I would like to try actual ballet classes and of course I fell in love from the first moment.

What would you love to try?
There are so many things I would love to try. Stand up paddle-boarding... Inverted Yoga... I wish there were more hours in the day!

What motivates you at 8am on a Monday morning?
My little Dachshund (sausage dog) Buddy. Even if I'm tired or stressed out, he is the best reminder that every day can be a good day if you put yourself in the right headspace. And he is always's contagious.

A phrase you use far too often?
"OMG I have something to tell you..."
